Meeting Minutes 22nd May
4 Jun 2014 by Ross Macpherson
Hi Beer Buddies, another great evening hosted by yours truly with a theme of “Asian Beers” dominating the night.
Special mention to Jim who brought his own flu along as well as the beer to the meeting…great courage under extreme health conditions.
On with the Tastings:
Buntz opened the evening with a “Chang” given we had a few double ups for the night. “Plenty of rice flavor” and clean on the palate. We rated this one a 3.10 whilst the Buddy was harsh at 2.02.
Next was Baz who introduced the “Asahi” – “fresh, crips and clear”…bit like Baz on a Monday morning was the call! The team gave this one a 3.30 whilst the Buddy gave it a 2.21.
Next was the clear front runner of the nigh – “Sapporo Draft Beer”. Kev whipping out a nice set of big cans!…followed by the beer. We all agreed this was a 3.60 – Buddy = 2.21.
Next was the Dark Horse Bernie. Never lets the night down but clearly a bit rattled by Kev’s Big Cans. As always something special was afoot…“Tsingtao” was introduced into the mix with little fuss from the master. Stories of a “Tipsy Room” and a swig of this well hopped beer put the boys in no doubt that this was a genuine drop. We gave this a 3.40 whilst the Buddy gave it a 2.04.
It was then Joe’s turn to mix things up – “Singha” was his selection. A full bodied barley malt beauty, rich in taste with strong hop characters. We gave this a 3.40 – Buddy = 2.24.
Your truly introduced a “Lucky Buddha” – the VB of the ORIENT! – rated by my colleagues at a 3.10 whilst the Buddy smashed it at 1.89. Nice shape..no substance…bit like Nick Maxwell.
Jim – doubled up on the Sapporo but top points for turning up whilst suffering with a man flu.
NEXT MEETING:
Buntz place – BELGIUM BEERS is the theme – 19th JUNE.
OTHER MATTERS:
