14th August Meeting Minutes
30 Aug 2014 by Ross Macpherson
Hi Beer Buddies, time for a quick meeting wrap for our last get together.
Firstly thanks to Jim for hosting the evening. His venue and hosting style is now becoming increasingly linked to the mystery and magic of the black soup or stout. This night was no different with Stout from the British Isles being the theme.
To set the scene we all opened with a standard Guiness just to get the juices flowing. We rated this at 3.60 whilst the Buddy gave it a 3.41.
Now the baseline was set we were ready for the tastings:
Yours truly introduced a “Brewdog Riptide” a Scottish branded version of the Old World Russian Imperial Stout. Soft, smooth and dark chocolately…or as someone mentioned the colour was the “sump oil out of the HQ”. We gave this a 3.30 whilst the buddy gave it a 3.63.
Next was Buntz with a “Youngs Double Chocolate Stout”, a nice drop with plenty of dark chocolate. 3.50 by us whilst the Buddy was 3.75.
Joe then introduced the “Black Wolf Double Espresso”…the double strength coffee beans rated this one high on the nostril and cleared a few sinuses. 3.30 by us, Buddy = 3.09.
Kev then unleashed the Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout, deep chocolate colour, with a scented barley nose. 3.60 from us, 3.86 on the Buddy. The only real “beer smelling” drink of the night.
Bernie (DARK horse..by name…etc) – unveiled the CAFFREYS!…a nice creamy all rounder..plenty of VISCOSITY suggested Kev..3.10 by us, 2.67 (harsh..) by the Buddy.
BAZ – introduced a very lazy ST Peters Cream Stout..The new GHOST of the team set up the night well by phoning ahead pretending he did not even know the theme and then he slams this little dark choc creamy beauty in front of a stunned club..BANG…Bernie you now have a new challenger. a Rousing 3.70 was the result whilst the buddy came in at 3.61.
Our Host Jim rounded out the night with a Murphy’s Irish Stout – we gave this one a 3.50 whilst the buddy came in at 3.30.
WINNER BAZ!
